A great story built around a "what if" that almost was!
Roger Conlee
delivers an outstanding war story, well researched and well written, about
the "what-if" surrounding if the Japanese had attacked Southern California
immediately after Pearl Harbor. In addition to his vivid aerial combat
scenes, he also weaves an incredibly gripping tale of time travel and
alternate reality as the hero and his fiancé travel to an alternate reality
to save a loved one during the attack.
The author has an excellent writing style, and switches easily between first
and third person points of view. He uses the first person style when
relaying the accounts of "Uncle Jake," a newspaper reporter at the
time of the attack, and switches to third person to tie in the actions of
the rest of the characters. Conlee also does an amazing job of making
the time-travel theories of the book incredibly believable, adding to the
overall realism of the book. With action throughout and an unexpected
twist at the very end, this book is highly recommended for those who enjoy
historical fiction, military fiction, or science fiction books.
