There are other great winemakers
outside of California and France!
Author Albert Nathaniel Drake has
compiled a directory of sorts for winemakers in the state of Washington.
However, it is more than a directory or a list; it is chuck-full of other
useful information. One thing that perhaps should be pointed out is the over
abundance of books on wines and grapes from France and California. Of
course, these are important but as this book shows, there are great wines
being produced and consumed in the northwest in particular in Washington
State. Drake takes us along on his wine journey of discovery. His book fills
a gap in the great wine adventure of life!
The introduction of his book states that
the wine production in Washington has doubled in the last 10 years. More
people are finding the wealth of good wine selections and choices that can
be made within that state’s own vineyards and wineries. This book will
acquaint more people with those state resources and hopefully give wine
lovers more options.
Drake begins his book with a rather nice
little history on wine; then he takes us to Washington’s wine country and
breaks down the growing regions. What follows afterwards makes for a very
useful reference guide to that area’s wine selections. The book is a real
education for the basic novice wine drinker and as well for the more serious
wine aficionados. This is a guidebook that all wine drinkers should add to
their collection of books. Certainly if you live any where on the west coast
this would be a great book to take along to set out and explore the wine
regions of Washington.
