A Real World Guide for
Authors – Practical and Wise!
I have been reading author
Carolyn Howard-Johnson’s newsletters for what seems to be years now, but I
finally got to read her definitive book on marketing called “The
Frugal Book Promoter: How To Do What Your Publisher Won’t” and it
was beyond my expectations. There are many very good books on this subject
but this is truly “the gold standard” from which all those
other books should be compared and judged. It is really that good.
I expected the normal advice on
doing book signings and going to events to talk but Carolyn’s book takes you
to a more organized and practical approach with real world value. This is
not just some light weight listing of things you should do but comes with
very practical and sage advice as to how to precede forward once your book
is ready. In fact, it gets you making plans prior to the book publishing so
that when it does roll out it is welcomed to the book marketing world.
I think my fellow authors are
the best judges of what makes for a great book in this genre and when you
see so many of them actually using her book to promote their own creative
works, well, that speaks loudly for how effective her advice is. This is a
book that most authors will actually wear out; because it will be gone
through from cover to cover so many times. For a book, any book, it is an
honored death of success when they die from over use!
I thought I was good at
marketing and good at promoting myself until I read this book. I now realize
that even the sharpest knife in the collection can be sharpened some more
with intelligent analysis of the facts and with a battle plan. Carolyn will
take any author’s book to new and higher levels of sales. How far depends on
the quality of the stories in the books but with her guidance through this
book she will increase an author’s chances of success greatly!
This book receives the
MWSA’s highest book rating possible of FIVE STARS! It also receives my
personal endorsement!
