“Reads like a Movie – Only thing Missing is
John Wayne”
I have heard
former WWII veteran and author Ben Waldron talk about his exploits as
a POW and how he got captured in Corregidor several times now and each time
he tells it with the same passion - like it happened yesterday. His
autobiography “Corregidor From Paradise to Hell” captures all that
passion and energy in 243 spellbinding pages.
His life story
sounds almost like a plot from an old WWII movie. These tales of his years
spent as a POW in the Pacific theater makes for an entertaining and
educational reading experience. If you can not hear him tell you his story
in person then reading his book is the next best thing.
His narrative was
taken mostly from his day to day dairy that he secretly kept while a
Prisoner of War under the Japanese. He details the famous “death march” and
going to Japan on an old freighter on a journey that took 62 days. He is a
survivor for sure but his book will live long after him giving honor to
those men who endured a real hell in the Philippines during WWII.
