A Look at Vietnam That Most Vets Never Saw
Author Diana Dell skillfully puts together a bunch of
short stories in a great soft cover book called, “A Saigon Party and Other
Vietnam War Short Stories.” Reading about Vietnam from a female point
of view is always an interesting adventure for most of us male vets since we
tended to see things much more black and white and didn’t focus too hard on
all the gray areas of life. I found myself fascinated with what life
was like for the REMFs. (Those folks who worked in the rear areas of
the war zone – if there was really such a place.) It was a part of
the Vietnam War that I never got to see.
I only walked through the Saigon USO once, while
connecting with an R & R flight. I saw Donut Dollies when they came
out to our base camp, but I was with a group of several hundred guys.
So Diana's book gave me an inside look at that world and those people.
This is a book that made me laugh, get angry and even get moist eyes.
The author does a great job of capturing through short, emotionally charged,
stories, the people who were a part of her world in Vietnam when she was
there. I think others will enjoy reading this book!
A great book for women to read but men will get a lot of
insight from it.
