Barinelli's
War
by Gene Basilici
Fiction, Korea, Thriller
$16.95
The Korean War rages in Southeast Asia. Every
night the North Koreans hurl themselves against the outnumbered
Americans who hold the Pusan Perimeter, and every night the
overextended defenders are thinned even more.
Into this maelstrom lands Rick Barinelli, a
teenager fresh out of Basic and is thrown immediately onto the
front line. A natural leader with an innate understanding of
combat, he’s able to command and hold the all-important “Bowling
Alley” sector. Barinelli’s successes on the battlefield earn him
quick promotions.
The Inchon landing relieves the pressure on
Pusan and Barinelli’s platoon takes the point for an American
offensive. At Hungnam, they’re ordered to the rear and
reorganized as a reconnaissance company, while the Army’s Tenth
Corps and First Marine Division advance to the Chinese border.
But a quarter-million Chinese secretly
infiltrate the mountain passes and surround the Americans with
orders to annihilate them all. The only escape route is along a
narrow road past the Chosin Reservoir through the Funchilin Pass
to Hungnam and safety. The Funchilin must be held. But when
Barinelli’s company commander suddenly disappears, the survival
of over twenty thousand men falls on him.
With fewer than two hundred men under his
command, Barinelli faces the pressures of leadership in battle.
More importantly, he learns of faithlessness and heroism and the
inner gauntlet each soldier must pass through to survive.
REVIEW:
"His words drip in blood, courage and heroism! It is a
flag waving red, white and blue tribute without the band, the parade or
the flag! It is a tribute to those who did fight there even if it had to
be told though a fictional story. It is told with dignity and clarity of
purpose. You know who the heroes are and root for them." -- Bill

Behold an
Ashen Horse
By Lee Boyland
Fiction, Iraq/Afghanistan
$20.00
Five
American cities are destroyed by Islamic terrorists’ nuclear bombs.
General George Alexander, Secretary of Homeland Security, survives the
attack and becomes the 45th President of the U.S. The attack’s impact on
the nation is devastating. Millions dead or injured. The economy is on
the verge of total collapse. The new president does what has to be done
to save the nation.
REVIEWS
Wonderfully patriotic sequel!
Author Lee Boyland left his readers hanging
at the end of THE RINGS OF ALLAH. Five nuclear devices were
placed in the United States, but would the US be able to react in time?
BEHOLD,
AN ASHEN HORSE picks up the story right where RINGS left off. The
US, mired in liberal politics, bureaucracy, and political correctness,
doesn't react, and the resulting "Day of Islam" costs the lives of
millions of Americans. The entire government is wiped out in the blink
of an eye, except retired Air Force General George Alexander, who is
serving as the Secretary of Homeland Security. Alexander becomes
President, establishes a government, and sets forth to find and punish
those responsible. The release of nuclear weapons is authorized, and
President Alexander vows that this time there will be no "unfinished
business."
This
book has plenty of technological details, but the author does a great
job of keeping things moving and not letting technology bog down the
story; the descriptions are simple but accurate. Boyland also does a
great job of developing his characters, and you can't help but fall in
love with President Alexander as he pulls out all the stops and runs
roughshod over the liberal bureaucrats who try to stop him from saving
the United States and taking vengeance on those who attacked her.
If you
ever felt that the US needs to step up and act like the superpower she
is, THIS is the book for you! - Rob Ballister, MWSA
Behold,
an Ashen Horse
is a stunning, riveting story plausible enough to be tomorrow’s
headlines. Buckle your seatbelts…this is a nail-biting ride.
-
Joe Weber, New York Times best-selling author
The novel of the year has arrived.
Forget
about Patterson, King, Grisham and company. If you want at long last to
read a work that is intelligent, gripping, and truly terrifying, pick up
a copy of Lee Boyland's BEHOLD AN ASHEN HORSE. Mr. Boyland, who
has an extensive background in nuclear engineering and national defense,
is the rightful heir in American fiction to Tom Clancy.- Paul Williams,
author of: The Day of Islam, Osama’s Revenge, The Al Qaeda
Connection, Dunces of Doomsday, and The
Complete Idiot's Guide to the Crusades
A spirit to cheer for.
The book may open with a tragedy of incalculable
proportions but thereafter the spirit that made this country truly great
is paramount. The characters exemplify the clarity of thought and
purposefulness of action that is required to survive in the life and
death struggle with Islam. Resting on these themes is a story that is
simply exciting to read. I couldn't put it down. What I particularly
liked was the realistic and accurate portrayal of the struggle we are in
with Islam. I know this from the extensive research I had to do for my
own non fiction work.-

Hunting
with Tigers
By Gene Basilici
Fiction, Vietnam, Thriller

During the Vietnamese War, a Washington-approved
sanctuary for enemy troops in Laos and Cambodia is a recipe for
disaster, but a covert CIA operation made up of Special Forces
volunteers deemed expendable, penetrates the borders and
neutralizes the enemy's advantage. The Green Berets, Rick
Barinelli, Warren Fahey, and Bob Akamura, make a pact: If any
one of them goes missing, the others will commit to, "rescue,
ransom, or revenge."
Barinelli, conflicted with a growing passion
for a beautiful Vietnamese woman, Ai Dao, gains distinction for
intel successes that disrupt the Tet Offensive and becomes known
to the enemy as "the Gray Ghost". Hanoi orders General Wong to
capture or kill him regardless of cost, and the brilliant and
sadistic Wong spins an elaborate trap. He orchestrates the

Fahey to attempt their rescue.
Racing to a shattering climax, Hunting With
Tigers illustrates how ordinary men can rise to acts of

months earlier, he ended up becoming a Military Policeman, assigned to

Hell, the false clues and trail the killer planted kept him chasing
shadows, leading him away from the real killer.
Who is the Retribution Killer, and would Vince survive
long enough to solve his most difficult case?

REVIEW:
John Schembra has written a follow up to the
adventures of Vince Torelli. However, this does not take place in
Vietnam like John's first nove, "M.P." Torelli has returned home and
now is an inspector with the San Francisco Police Department where he
gets involved in a serial killer investigation and the search for the
"Retribution" Killer. The author's 30 years wof being a police officer
shines through in the book. It's rich with detail, especially when
describing the horrendous crimes and crime scenes. These particular
things are very vived to the reader. It's more an expose' on our
disintegrating, over-burdened court system where deals are made leaving
the men who do the work in the field stressed out at the results.
I liked this book a lot, and its a definite compliment to his first book
about Vince. The author leaves you hanging in this one. What will be
Vince's next move? Will he also succumb to the folly that is justice?
It will be interesting to see how the author follows this up. In his
third book? Hope so. -- Jim Stewart. Author of

The Rings of Allah

Boyland

MWSA
2007 SILVER MEDAL
Radical Islam plans a devastating attack on
the U.S. designed to bring the Great Satan to its knees,
triggering the Clash of Civilizations that has been building for 1400
years. An exciting, techno-thriller that shows the vulnerability of
western civilization to terrorists with weapons of mass destruction.
Yes, it can be done, and the Rings of Allah tells a thrilling
story of such a plan.
REVIEWS
Thank
Allah it's fiction, because it will scare the hell out of you!
Author Lee Boyland puts his
extensive special weapons background to use in spinning this completely
believable tale of al-Qaeda's next step after 9-11. Leftover Soviet
technology from the beginning of the Cold War falls into al-Qaeda's
hands, and they establish an intricate network in order to place five
atomic devices in five US cities. The US gets word of the attack, but
will it be in time? Boyland does a great job of mixing good character
development with great technical background in order to create this
story. Technical readers will appreciate his attention to detail as he
relates and educates the reader on the workings of gun-type atomic
weapons. Literature advocates will respect how he uses significant
events to develop his main characters. Many new writers fall into the
trap of trying to tell too much of the story, but Boyland avoids this by
jumping sometimes a year ahead in the story in order to keep things
moving. A great action story that is just a bit too possible, this is
definitely worth it for action and techo fans alike. - Rob Ballister,

The
Rings of Allah is an exciting, at
times harrowing journey into the future.
The novel ensnares the reader and the ending is not for the faint of
heart. A must read.” – Joe Weber, New York Times best-selling
author
Beliefs,
values, insight and rings.......The
Rings of Allah" is a fascinating in-depth look into the world of radical
Islamic terrorism. The technical knowledge of the author comes through
in the minute detail of weapon systems and their use. The book, written
in a chronological sequence of the development of the nuclear industry,
gives the reader a detailed background of what we are faced with in the
future. The plot was believable and the characters realistic as their
lives were woven together in a tapestry of intrigue and human drama that
pitted the beliefs of radical Islamic terrorists against mainstream
American democratic values. The story keeps the reader connected to the
real-life events as they unfold in a suspenseful battle to save America
from nuclear holocaust. Even though this is a fictional plot, it is a
must-read for those who are interested in what we are faced with from
the radical terrorists because it can evolve into a morbid reality. The
ending is spell-binding and unpredictable, and will leave the reader
with an unspoken sense of what can happen in our country if we don't
take action.

Historical Fiction, Civil War
$18.95
This is a
fiction based upon the real life of Belle Boyd , who became famous as
The Rebel Spy and The Cleopatra of the Secession. This is the first
novel in a series about the Confederate Secret Service and the women who
worked for it. The time is July 1861. Belle, a 17 year old debutante, is
alarmed and distressed when her home town , Martinsburg, Virginia, is
invaded by volunteer Union Army troops. The man she'd hoped to marry has
been killed in battle. When drunken Union soldiers invade her home, dire
consequences ensue.
REVIEWS:
The writing is
truly gifted and the author is inventive with how he uses real and
fictional dialogs and narrative of people and events. I honestly do not
know Civil War history well enough to know one from the other. But I
would bet that the author has researched much deeper into this period
then one might realize. He captures this place and time in our history.
To me it was a very satisfying reading. I think I even learned something
about that war new. -- Bill McDonald, Military Writers Society of
America
Francis Hamit,
best known as a journalist, has a good grasp of historical fiction. His
writing is solidly based on the true story of Belle Boyd, including bits
of dialogue taken from historical accounts. What makes this good
historical fiction is that fact that he is able to fill in the "known"
with the "believable" in terms of actions and dialogue, filling in the
gaps and fleshing out the characters. -- Nick Smith, Amazon Reveiwer

Two Brothers: One North, One
South
By David H. Jones
Historical Novel, Civil War
$24.95
Walt Whitman feared that the real war would
never get in the books - the true stories that depicted the
courage and humanity of soldiers who fought, bled, and died
in the American Civil War.
Exceptionally researched and keenly accurate
to actual events, along with the personages that forged
them, David H. Jones's novel spans four years in the midst
of America's costliest and most commemorated war.
The journey is navigated by the poet, Walt
Whitman, whose documented compassion for the wounded and
dying soldiers of the war takes him to Armory Square
Hospital in Washington, D.C., and finds him at the bedside
of William Prentiss, a Rebel soldier, just after fighting
has ended. As fate has it, William's brother, Clifton, a
Union officer, is being treated in another ward of the same
hospital, and Whitman becomes the sole link not just between
the two, but with the rest of their family as well.
The reader is taken seamlessly from Medfield
Academy in Baltimore, where the Prentiss family makes its
home, to the many battlefields where North and South
collide, and even through the drawing rooms of wartime
Richmond, where Hetty, Jenny, and Constance Cary are the
reigning belles.
Ultimately, Two Brothers -One North, One
South is a story about patriotism.

By T.H.E. Hill
Fiction, Cold
War
$14.95
Voices Under
Berlin: The Tale of a Monterey Mary
is a novel about one of the early skirmishes of the Cold War
told with a pace and a black humor reminiscent of that used by
Joseph Heller (Catch-22 )
and Richard Hooker (Mash ).
It is set against the backdrop of Operation GOLD (PBJOINTLY),
the CIA cross-sector spy tunnel operation in Berlin in the
mid-1950s.
REVIEWS:
“Voices
was a treat to read because it accurately, amusingly, and respectfully
captures—as never before was so well done—the carefree yet dedicated
attitude of U.S. military intelligence linguists. With humor, Voices
describes how intelligence folks successfully and honorably worked in
Berlin, as they did worldwide, to defeat the Soviets in the Cold War.”
—
Bruce Ford, veteran of Field Station Berlin in the 1960s, and webmaster
of the
FSB Veterans Group.

The Wall of
Broken Dreams
by Duke Barrett
Fiction, Thriller, Adventure,
Vietnam
$14.95
Duke will give MWSA members a
significant discount.
The trajectory
of the bullet that ripped into the young paratroopers chest, knocked him
on his backside thus saving him the added indignity of laying face down
in the mud of the monsoon drenched jungle floor. With life rapidly
escaping his body through the gaping
wound, Johnny dreams of being with Mai, a beautiful Eurasian girl he’d
only recently met and fell in love with on an in-country R&R at Vung Tau.
To be back in the “world,” to play his guitar and to live out his life
with Mai consumed his every thought.
Shortly after returning to his combat unit, Johnny Richards, a cocky
Irish, blue-eyed blues guitarist from the streets of Chicago, is gravely
wounded on a combat air-assault into an enemy stronghold, after taking a
bullet for a buddy. Are Johnny and Mai allowed to live out their dreams?
Does the bullet that cut him down cut short his young adventurous life
and their dreams? In 1983, at The Vietnam Memorial, better known as “The
Wall,” Johnny’s hopes, dreams and survival come face to face with the
emotional but spiritual realization that is his.
The Wall Of Broken Dreams is an adventure for sure, as any Vietnam War
story should be. More than that though, it is also an inspirational
story of the hopes and dreams of a young man serving his country with an
elite army combat platoon in Vietnam.
The story appeals not only to the military adventure reader but also to
the reader seeking an inspirational message. The Wall Of Broken Dreams
is an adventure with an emotional punch.
REVIEW:
“Duke Barrett takes the sacred elements of the “Nam
Experience” and weaves them into a synthesis that is the true,
fundamental foundation of any authentic story about the war in
Vietnam, be it a memoir or a work of fiction, and makes it a
meaningful background to his novel.
“This story is an adventure but be prepared for an emotional
and inspirational journey, as well. But then, when you wake up,
maybe all that you just read was just a dream!” -- W. H. “Bill”
McDonald Jr., Past President and founder of The Military Writers Society
of America (MWSA)
So often we think about war in abstract terms but
Vietnam vet, Duke Barrett, has made the traumatic
and long-lasting implications of battle spring to life
in this poignant story about the courage, loyalty,
patriotism and conflict of a young soldier. We root
for him to realize his dreams, knowing fully well
that the deck is stacked against him. -- Sigrid Macdonald, editor and
author of D'Amour
