Synopsis:
Hastings is a young American with a small family and a loving girl
friend. His battalion moves to Iraq and he finds himself surrounded by
violence and death from all sides. Right after his first armed encounter
which results in the death of a few innocent women and children, he
realizes that he doesn't belong there. He and his trusted friend,
Harbash both feel terribly guilty and want to go back.
Both the friends go through an emotional roller coaster ride filled with
fear, disgust, pain and helplessness. Life means nothing but kill or be
killed. Every day, amidst mounting anxiety and tension, they survive an
ever increasing number of suicide attacks and ambushes on US troops.
Back home, Harbash's girl friend dumps him and Hastings' girl gets into
a whole lot of trouble with her parents. During one of the gun battles,
Hastings gets injured and hospitalized and his esteemed Sgt Major, Staff
Sgt Duncan gets paralyzed for life. This incident leaves a deep impact
on Hasting’s life.
Sgt Moore, the new Sgt Major is a ruthless character full of hatred and
malice towards Iraqis A few days after Hastings' returns to active duty,
Sgt Moore gets killed in a suicide attack and Hastings' himself narrowly
escapes death.
On the last day of their stay in Iraq, while traveling to the airport
for onward journey to the US, Harbash gets killed leaving behind a
letter for his parents which is an eye opener and makes everybody cry.
