Alone in the Rain

A soldier stands alone in the rain

One arm in a sling

His other hand on a cane

Not yet does he realize

He is home again,

The physical wounds

Will with time heal

This man’s heart and

Soul ne’er will,

Through red-rimmed eyes

Reflecting nothing save pain

On the face of this soldier

As he stands alone

In the rain.
